According to TNS Media Intelligence, due to economic pressures, the number of affluent households in the US (defined as having a net worth over $500,000) dropped last year, falling from 16.4 million in 2007 to 15.6 million in 2008.

Exploding Digital Universe
In 2008 alone, IDC says the world created 487 billion gigabytes of information, up 73% from 2007. That was 3% more than it forecast at the beginning of the year.
IDC calculates the number by estimating the installed population of data-creating devices — CAT scanners, digital cameras, iPhones, RFID readers, supercomputers — and multiplying each by the amount of data each creates. Not everything has to be stored. Phone call routing information, digital TV signals and spam don’t need to be saved. But a lot of information does.

The new millennium may have come in with a Y2K non-event and financial thud, but the geek exuberance has grown only stronger since. Geekiness has gone mainstream! According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 96 percent of those who work use the Internet, e-mail or have a cell phone for some purpose in their lives, almost 40 percent of Americans have a wireless handheld such as a BlackBerry, and nearly 25 percent use social-networking websites like Twitter or Facebook {Via}.

eMarketer estimates there were roughly 6 million Twitter users in the US in 2008, or 3.8% of Internet users.
eMarketer projects that the number of Twitter users will jump to 18.1 million in 2010, representing 10.8% of Internet users.
comScore reported that Twitter.com drew 4 million unique visitors from home, work and college/university locations in February 2009, up from 340,000 a year earlier—a 1,086% increase.
Nielsen Online reported 7 million unique visitors to Twitter.com during the month, up even higher—1,381%—from 475,000 the prior year.
comScore also reported a surge in March. After months of double-digit growth, traffic to Twitter.com accelerated 131% to 9.3 million visitors for the month.
And the number of Twitter users is considerably greater than the number of visitors to Twitter.com, as a result of the multiple access points for the service (for example, mobile devices and desktop apps).
A survey of Twitter users from MarketingProfs backs Mr. Williams’ views. On a scale from 1 to 5 (with 1 for strongly disagree and 5 and for strongly agree), the phrase “I find it exciting to learn new things from people” averaged a score of 4.65 and “I value getting information in a timely manner” averaged 4.58.

Do You Have a Blog?
Currently, 27.9 million US Internet users have a blog they update at least once per month, and they represent 14% of the Internet population. By 2013, 37.6 million users will update their blogs at least monthly. eMarketer estimates that in 2009 96.6 million US Internet users will read a blog at least once per month. By 2013, 128.2 million people, or 58% of all US users, will do the same.
